The FOURTH

Jiminy Crickets! Is it really the fourth of July weekend already? Just how does that work when the 4th is actually on a weekday? Since it is Tue, I proclaim this coming weekend the fourth weekend! Now, next year it should be on Wednesday, so I guess that means no fourth weekend at all. You know how I feel about holidays in general, and the fourth is just another excuse for folks to drink to much, eat too much and party too much.. now it is good to celebrate the 'birth' of our nation, but the way we are heading now, we should focus more on the pending 'death' of our country....

Anyway, happy fourth to one and all. Next Thursday I begin my tortorous month of July, when I have a 7:30 am MTWRF API class at STCC... no more longggggg weekends, argh!

Got to walk across campus and pick up some registration forms, so so long...

Good day

4 H Camp Ends

Another weekend in upon us (this is my next to last four day weekend)! Tomorrow I go to Milan TN and pick up my family from 4-H camp. I am proud of them for sticking it out. This has been one of our hottest weeks and the cabins they stayed in have NO AC! Plus, my wife is not fond of the great outdoors anyway and the cabins were kind of dirty, which is another thing she doesn't like. From my conversations with them this week, I gather they will be really glad to get home! I need to clean the house really well tonite so it will be up to par and pass inspection! Got to mow the dang grass again too. The rain we had last weekend caused it to grow quickly.

GO HEAT! I was glad to see Miami win the NBA title, what with all their UK connections (univ of Kentucky) and the fact that I like D-Wade too. The US Open (golf) wasn't much fun to watch, since Tiger missed the cut. But it was good to see Mickleson CHOKE on the 18th hole to lose! Something about him I just don't care for and that would have made him 3 majors won in a row, can't have that! Had a good Father's day. We grilled out and I got a couple of nice shirts and a bottle of Crown Royal (yeah)!

Got to get ready for class. We are reviewing for exam II, so I should be a short class (yeah)!

NOTE: I can't run my spell checker anymore due to contraints on our LAN, so please forgive any typos I don't catch.

Good day

The Weekend

My 4-day weekend is here again. My other class starts July 6 (7am M-F), so I best enjoy these long weekends while I can, right. The US Open (golf) is this weekend and the final day of that tourny is always fun to watch. And it is Fathers Day, so I should get away with doing absolutely nothing this Sunday but watch sports and drink brews (hey, that is what I do anyway!). I guess since it is Dad Day, I will feel less guilty about doing nothing. On some Sundays, we do go to my gym and workout after church, but else, it is a relaxing day. I have always had one big critism of Sunday, that it is always followed by MONDAY! But my 4 day weekends solved that problem, at least for a minute.

McKenzie and her mom are going to 4-H camp on Monday, so I will have to find a away to adjust to having the house all to myself! How will I ever manage?

Anyway, time to get out of the office and enjoy my weekend.

Good day

NBA Finals

I fondly recall the NBA playoffs of 2004. I had just gotten to Nevis when they began. At first, I was shocked that there was cable TV there! Then, there were most all the same channels I was used to: ABC, NBC, CBS, TNT, TBS, ESPN, WGN etc, where the ones I usually watched most. Of course, during my time there, I found myself watching old movies that I hadn't seen before to kill time between sports and/or my office. A few of the guys in my API, II classes hung out at Sylvia's, a restaurant attached to the freshman dorms, located on a slopping hillside/goat pasture. It turned out that they were into the NBA playoffs too, so we spent a lot of time watching and talking about the playoffs. That really helped me adjust to being so far away from my family. I also was relieved that I could watch PGA golf and NASCAR there too! It may just be fate, but I remember a few weekends where my golf match was interupted by the local weather from the channel in the US that was being picked up on Nevis. The channel was out of Tennesses! How odd is it that we now live here and that same station still breaks into normal programming just to show us a storm front moving across our area! I recall how frustrated I was back then, to have waited all week to watch a race or a golf tourney, only to have it repeatedly interrupted to show a storm front moving across TN!

MUA is looking for someone full-time and if I were to get a offer, it would be a very tough decision to give up my professorship in Memphis to move my family to Nevis. Part of me wants to return to the relative peace and tranquility of the Caribbean, but another part recalls the heat, bugs and feeling of being trapped on the island. I would think that those feelings would dissapate given enought time, then I would be able to finish our my career and retire in "paradise", right!
Of course, the move there would be a tough chore, dealing with storage of my furniture and truck here, getting all our important belonging there, but hey, I most likely won't even get an offer. I am really happy at my postion here and I guess the devil is just putting this potential temptation in front of me to distract me. Who knows?

Later gator,

4 day weekends

Man, I could get used to these four day weekends. But alas, they are only going to last until after July 4, when I begin have a 7 am API class M-F! The best part about the summer II session at Southwest is that is only lasts a month!

Had a pretty boring weekend actually, just hung out around the house, drank some brews and rum, fished a little, watched some golf and racing on TV.... Hey, wait a minute, that sounds like a good weekend for DubG! We all came into Memphis and worked out at the BCHS gym for a couple hours and McKenzie got to swim in our pool the whole time. She loves the pool and the beach. I am getting so I really don't care for the pool as much as I used to and I really can do without the beach (sand, wind, bugs oh my). I really enjoy having the basketball court to myself to just shoot around. I can't move as well as I used to, but I can still shoot pretty well. Adrienne and I both lift weights and do the cardio stuff. There are 6 or so TV's with cable in there, so we all get to watch something we want, so I usually have one or two games on will I get my cardio in.

McKenzie is going to a 4-H camp the week of June 19 and Adrienne is going along as a camp counselor, so I will be stuck at home by myself the entire week! WOW, how will I ever manage! Better stock up on beers, rum and vodka! Oh, yeah, pizzas and chips too!

About time for me to begin sitting up the computer for my lecture this afternoon, so I best say bye for now.

Bye
